New Delhi | Producers of the Narendra Modi biopic in reply to the Election commission notice on the release of the film has said that such step to delay or ban on the film will adversely affect the rule of law and democratic structure of India.
Hitesh Jain representing the makers of the film said that “The allegations made linking our client’s movie with a political party merely on a few public events, Facebook posts and tweets are not only false but have no basis in either fact and/or law.”
The producers also clarified that the film can’t be termed as political propaganda as the lead actor (Vivek Oberoi) has political views aligned with BJP. Responding to the allegation of violating the Model Code of Conduct, the makers said,” The film did not violate the Model Code of Conduct because the film is “a biography in a visual medium”. Since biographies could be sold, a biopic should be allowed to release.”
Various political parties have alleged the film starring Vivek Oberoi violates the model code of conduct and would act like an advertisement to the BJP.
Earlier on March 20, K Mahesh, East Delhi’s Returning Officer had issued suo motu notices to the production house and music company behind the film PM Narendra Modi and two leading newspapers for publishing advertisements of the film. The Election commission also marked a copy of the notice to the BJP as the film has a reference to the party.
The biopic is set to release on April 5, a week before the first phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
