Bihar floods: Rains continue to batter the state, Red alert issued in 11 districts

Bihar capital Patna is one of the most affected areas due to rains and flooding. In many areas, there is not even electricity and drinking water for 36 hours.

 

Patna| The flooding and waterlogging continued for the fourth consecutive day as the heavy rains battered Bihar. So far 29 people have died in flood-rain related accidents in the state. Nearly 80% of households in Patna are underwater. The administration has announced that the school-college will be shut till Tuesday. Nitish govt has asked for two choppers from the Air Force for the rescue operation. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said that many areas of the state, including Patna, may receive heavy rain on Monday.

14 districts of Bihar have been kept in the red category. These include Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Banka, Samastipur, Madhepura, Saharsa, Purnia, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Katihar, Vaishali and Munger.

No electricity and water in Patna

State’s capital Patna is one of the most affected areas due to rains and flooding. In many areas, there is not even electricity and drinking water for 36 hours. The capital received 40% of the monsoon rains within 48 hours from Saturday evening to Sunday evening. The four rivers near Patna, Son, Ganga, Gandak and Punpun, have risen above the danger mark.

State govt seeks help from IAF

The state government has demanded two pumps to extract water from Patna. Simultaneously, two helicopters have been demanded from the Airforce to evacuate the stranded people and distribute food packets among them.

Meanwhile, 11 districts are under Red alert. This includes Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Banka, Madhepura, Saharsa, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Munger Katihar. Seven districts are put in orange alert while Six districts are under Yellow alert.
