BJP leader Anant Kumar Hegde receives threatening calls

Anant Kumar Hegde had earlier claimed that he was the target of a failed assassination bid after a car in his convoy was hit by a truck last Tuesday.

MANGALURU: BJP MP and Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anant Kumar Hegde received a call threating to kill him on Sunday morning.

Suresh Govind Shetty, Hegde’s personal assistant has filed a complaint at Sirsi police station.

According to the complaint, the minister had received a call first on his mobile from a number +4044 at 2.17am on Sunday. As Hegde suspected it as an internet call, he did not receive it. At around 2.20 am, a call was made on his landline, which was received by Hegde’s wife Roopa. The caller inquired in Hindi who was speaking and when Roopa replied, the caller disconnected the phone.

Hegde again received a call at 2.25 am, wherein the caller disconnected when Roopa picked up the call. The third time, Hegde received the call and when he answered the caller, the caller threatened to kill him. This was followed by verbal abuse. Hegde cut off the call without giving the person to abuse him further.

The minister tweeted that he received the threat call around 2:30 am and that the caller was speaking in Kannada. “I am used to receiving threat calls for a long time now. Last night around 2.30am, on my landline, I received a couple of blank calls before the third call started abusing and threatening to chop me to pieces before I disconnected the call. The caller was speaking in Kannada,”

Anant Kumar Hegde had earlier claimed that he was the target of a failed assassination bid after a car in his convoy was hit by a truck last Tuesday. Hedge has accused the Congress-led government of “pleasing Jihadi forces” saying he has no expectations from the administration despite lodging a complaint against the caller in Sirsi.

Police have registered a case under sections 504 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code.
