Bombay HC Slams I&B Ministry For Revealing Personal Data of More Than 4000 RTI Applicants

The Bombay HC Bench was hearing a plea filed by RTI activist Saket Gokhale whose personal details were revealed on the Ministry’s website.

 

Mumbai| The Bombay High Court today pulled up the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for revealing the personal information of about 4000 RTI applicants. The personal details of these RTI applicants were displayed on the Ministry’s website.

The Bombay HC Bench was hearing a plea filed by activist Saket Gokhale whose personal details were revealed on the Ministry’s website. He was inundated with hate calls, threats etc. He had earlier also complained that some miscreants reached his residence and were shouting slogans against him after he filed a plea in the Allahabad HC seeking a stay on Ram Janmabhoomi Bhoomi Pujan earlier this year.

The bench had asked the Centre to file an affidavit explaining whether the ministry has revealed the personal details of other RTI applicants or he was “singled out”. According to Live Law, It was during the hearing that the Information and Broadcasting ministry said that it has disclosed the details of 4000 such applicants. However, on August 1, 2020, the data was removed from the website, the ministry told the court.
