Mumbai| Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has resigned from his post. The decision comes after the Bombay High Court today directed the CBI to conduct an independent inquiry on the allegations levelled against him. The Court also asked the agency to submit its report within 156 days.

The Bombay HC was hearing the petition filed by Jayashri Patil in which she had sought CBI inquiry against Anil Deshmukh. Caught in the web of Sachin Vaze-Antilia case, former Mumbai CP Param Bir Singh was transferred from his post. After his transfer, he wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleging that Anil Deshmukh had asked Sachin Vaze and Several other police officials to collect 100 Crore rupees in Vasooli. He later also moved to Supreme Court but the court asked him to approach Bombay HC. The Bombay High Court during the hearing slammed the top cop asking him why he didn’t file an FIR against the Home Minister first.
