Following requests from states to extend the lockdown, PM Narendra Modi announced that the lockdown will continue till 3rd May.
New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India did a better job than other developed countries in stopping the spread of breakout.
Prime Minister further said that when India had only over 550 cases, we announced a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread.
PM Modi said, ” On the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, This demonstration of our collective power on behalf of the people of India, This resolution is a True tribute to him.”
Prime Minister said that states and citizens have suggested extending the lockdown.
Prime Minister said that keeping everything in mind we have decided to extend the lockdown until 3rd May.
Prime Minister says that whatever relaxations granted during the shutdown to some areas will be upon conditions. And even if there is one new case reported in the area, the relaxations will be taken back.
Proper guidelines on the lockdown extension and its rules will be issued tomorrow, said PM. Talking about daily wagers, Prime Minister says the new guidelines will be made keeping their interests in mind.
PM Modi said that India has 1.5 lakh bed available for the outbreak-related patients and more than 600 hospitals are working for coronavirus treatment. New facilities are being added every day.

PM Modi requests young scientists to come forward and help in creating the coronavirus vaccine.
PM Modi emphasises on 7 steps to be followed.
1) Take proper care of people in your house especially those with underlying problems and the senior citizens.
2) Lockdown and social distancing should be properly followed. Home-made face covers and masks should be used.
3) Increase your immunity by following directions given by Ayush Ministry.
4) Download Aarogya Setu application to help curb coronavirus spread.
5) Help poor families.
6) Do not remove people from jobs.
7) Respect coronavirus ‘soldiers’ — doctors, nurses, sanitation workers.
The Prime Minister said that the extended lockdown will be extra strict until April 20 and all areas will be monitored to check whether the rules are being followed.
