Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to expand his cabinet, according to sources. Six to seven new faces are predicted to be induced in the UP cabinet.
According to a report, prepartions are underway for the Oath taking ceremony in Raj Bhavan at 5:30 pm. The expansion comes months before the Assembly polls in politically significant state, and keeping the elections in mind and to hold strong position, this expansion will include representation from across castes and communities.
Reports suggest that Sangeeta Bind, Jitin Prasada, Chhatrapal Gangwar, Palturam, Dinesh Khatik and Krishna Paswan could take oath as ministers in Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet.
The state will account for the largest cabinet of ministers, with 14 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs as ministers. This is the first time that Uttar Pradesh has had such a huge representation in the central government.
Last week Yogi Adityanath expressed confidence that the BJP would return to power in the state, winning a majority in the election. The Chief Minister declared the ‘perception’ about the state had changed and that he expected to win over 350 of the state’s 403 seats.
“The perception about UP on the national stage has changed due to the united efforts of the people, the organisation, and the government. People’s confidence in governance has increased… this belief will ensure our victory in the 2022 elections with an overwhelming majority of 350 seats,” he said.
At the Centre, the BJP has 84 MPs from Uttar Pradesh-62 in the Lok Sabha and 22 in the Rajya Sabha, while its ally Apna Dal has two.
2022 elections extremely crucial for BJP
The 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election is extremely crucial for the BJP as its outcome is likely to set the tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The BJP recently suffered a major drubbing in West Bengal despite having pumped in massive political capital and human resource.
Past of BJP in UP
In 2017 the BJP won 325. The Samajwadi Party and its allies won 54 and the BSP 19 seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is a Lok Sabha MP from UP’s Varanasi, lavished praise on Yogi Adityanath and his government this month, commending it for leading “the biggest development campaigns of the country” and holding it up as an example of the “double-engine” model.
