In the first ever Cabinet expansion exercise in the second term of Modi Govt, 36 new ministers were inducted.
Within 2 hours of the cabinet expansion, Prime Minister Modi also handed over the responsibility of departments to the new team. First of all, Home Minister Amit Shah has been given the newest Ministry of Cooperation. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Congress leader who defected to BJP last year has been assigned to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ashwini Vaishnaw, a post graduate from IIT, has been assigned to the Ministry of Railways and Information Technology.
Ministry of Health will be handled by Mansukh Mandavia instead of Dr. Harsh Vardhan. Anurag Thakur who was earlier MoS Finance has got a big promotion. He has been made Minister of Sports and Information & Broadcasting. Kiren Rijiju who was sports minister earlier has been given the charge of Law ministry. While Hardeep Singh Puri has been given Ministry of Petroleum and Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan who earlier handled the ministry has been assigned the Education ministry. Meenakshi Lekhi has been made the MoS External Affairs.
