CBI vs CBI: Enquiry committee meeting hearing Alok Verma postponed to Friday

CBI Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana were sent on leave following a prolonged internal strife between the two.

 

New Delhi| CBI Director Alok Verma appeared before the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on Thursday in connection with the probe in the allegations levelled against him by his colleague Rakesh Asthana. However, the enquiry committee meeting of to hear Verma was postponed as one of the Vigilance Commissioners was unable to attend the meeting. The meeting is now scheduled to take place on Friday.

On October 24, CBI Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana were sent on leave following a prolonged internal strife between the two. Both the fighting officers however moved to the Supreme Court challenging the alleged unceremonious removal past midnight. The offices of both Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana were sealed and all officers working with the CBI director were also sent on leave.

According to the report appeared in a news daily, Vigilance Commissioner T M Bhasin couldn’t attend the meeting due to a personal commitment. Justice (retd) A K Patnaik, who was asked by the Supreme Court to oversee the probe, Central Vigilance Commissioner K V Chowdary and Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar were present for the enquiry. The enquiry committee thus decided to postpone the meeting to Friday.

In the last hearing, the Supreme Court had ordered a probe into the case under the supervision of Justice Patnaik. The report prepared after the enquiry has to be approved by him and submitted to the Supreme Court during the next hearing of the case which is to be held on Monday.
