CBI, Lokayukt gives clean chit to Arvind Kejriwal in corruption case

New Delhi | Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday got a clean chit from both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Lokayukta for corruption charges filed against him by former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Kapil Mishra.

CM Kejriwal was accused by Kapil Mishra for accepting a 2 crore bribe in cash from Delhi Minister Satyendra Jain after Mishra the then Minister for water, and art and culture was sacked on 6 May 2017 due to “mismanagement in water supply and billing”.

Delhi government’s anti-corruption branch had filed a complaint with the CBI and the Lokayukta on the allegations of Kapil Mishra The former Aap leader recorded his statement with the Lokayukta but didn’t submit any evidence. CBI in its report stated lack of evidence and on finding no merit in Mishra’s allegations, didn’t launch a formal probe.

Responding to the decision of CBI, AAP spokesperson addressing the media said, “Mishra’s lies were exposed when the AAP asked him about the exact time of the day when he visited the chief minister’s residence and refused to answer, saying that he only answered to the CBI.” He further added that “Mishra confidently claimed that he was an eyewitness to the alleged corrupt activity at the chief minister’s residence. But when AAP asked him the exact time, his lie was revealed.”
