New Delhi | The central government is ready to provide all possible help to states affected by rains and thunderstorms, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday.

Singh also said the Ministry of Home Affairs is closely monitoring the situation in all affected areas.

“The Centre is ready to provide all possible assistance to the states affected by heavy rains and storm. The MHA is closely monitoring the situation in the affected areas,” he said on Twitter.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives due to the “untimely” rains and storm, the home minister said he was deeply pained and anguished by the loss of precious lives due to the natural calamities in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and certain other parts of the country.

Overnight rains in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and some other places have left nearly 30 people dead, officials said.

Jaipur | Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot today said that Ram Nath Kovind was selected as the President of India to balance the caste equation, before the state elections in Gujarat.

Gehlot said that BJP was sceptical that they would not be able to form a government ahead of the state elections, so to appease the Koli community in Gujarat, they selected President Ram Nath Kovind.

He also said that this is why BJP Senior leader LK Advani was left out of power.

Ashok Gehlot said the move was meant to benefit them in the elections.

Kyunki Gujarat ke chunaav aa rahe the, vo ghabra chuke the ki humari sarkar Gujarat mein nahi banne ja rahi hai… mera aisa maanna hai ki Ram Nath Kovind ji ko banaya (President), jaatiya sammeekaran baithane ke liye aur Advani sahab chhut gaye(Because Gujarat elections were approaching, they were afraid that they will not be able to form the government there… I believe Ram Nath Kovind ji was made president keeping in mind caste considerations and Advani ji lost the race),” Gehlot said at the meeting in Jaipur.
