Chandrayaan 2: Vikram lander separates successfully from the orbiter

According to ISRO, the Vikram Lander successfully separated from Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter at 1. 15 PM today. Meanwhile, the Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to revolve around the Moon.

 

New Delhi| In yet another success for the Indian Space Research Organization, the lander Vikram has separated from the orbiter without any hurdles. The separation of the lander Vikram, which is riding atop the main craft, on Monday afternoon is a key event for Chandrayaan’s southern moon exploration mission.

According to ISRO, the Vikram Lander successfully separated from Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter at 1. 15 PM today. The lander is currently located in an orbit of 119 km x 127 km. Meanwhile, the Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to revolve around the Moon in its existing orbit.

ISRO said that its Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru is monitoring the health of the Orbiter and Lander. The monitoring is undertaken from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO with support from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas at Bylalu, near Bengaluru.

The next manoeuvre is scheduled on September 03, 2019 between 8. 45- 9. 45 AM.
