New Delhi | Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday will be visiting the flood-affected regions in Kerala. On a 2-day visit, Gandhi will be visiting the flood-affected regions of Chengannur, Alappuzha, and Angamaly after arriving in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi on the second day will be visiting the Wayanad district of Kerala.
Earlier on 18 August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an aerial survey of the devastating situation in Kerala. PM Modi also announced a package of 600 crores for the relief and rescue work in Kerala. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also undertook an aerial survey of Kerala on August 12 along with Chief Minister P Vijayan and announced an immediate assistance of 100 crores.
Kerala is facing one of the worst floods in its history with the loss of 21,000 crores already been suffered by the state. More than 1 million people have been forced to stay in relief camps due to constant rains and flood like situation in the state. Chief Minister P Vijayan has appealed to the citizens of Kerala to stay ‘united as one’ to tackle this difficult situation faced by the state.
