A day after celebrating his 93 birthday, veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora passed away at Fortis Escort Hospital in Delhi on Monday.
The Congress leader was first detected with Covid-19 in October but recovered and got discharged on October 16. However, he was later admitted to escorts on December 19 after he complained of breathlessness.
Till April this year, Mr Vora was a Rajya Sabha member from Chhattisgarh. Before the recent party reshuffle by Congress interim-president Sonia Gandhi, Mr Vora was also the AICC general secretary (administration).
After Tarun Gogoi and Ahmed Patel, Motilal Vora is the third senior leader of Congress to pass way in last two months.
Considered as Gandhi family loyalist, Mr Vora served as the Congress party’s treasurer for many years before Ahmed Patel was given the post two years back. He had several terms as Rajya Sabha MP and also worked as governor of Uttar Pradesh.
Mr Vora was appointed chief minister of Madhya Pradesh on March 13, 1985. To join the Union Government, he resigned from the post of the chief minister on February 13, 1988.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, condoling the death of the veteran leader, said he was a true congressman and a wonderful human being. “Vora ji was a true congressman and a wonderful human being. We will miss him very much. My love & condolences to his family and friends (sic),” Mr Gandhi said in his tweet.
