New Delhi : Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that in the current circumstances, he does not think that the Congress is going to get 300 seats in the next Lok Sabha elections.
Publicly speaking about his silence on Article 370, he said that only the Supreme Court and the central government can restore it. According to the English newspaper ‘The Indian Express’, Ghulam Nabi Azad said these things while addressing a public meeting in Poonch Nagar of Jammu division on Wednesday.
He said, “When will we have 300 MPs? That’s why I cannot make this promise (reinstatement of Article 370) because for this we will have to get 300 MPs in 2024. God give us 300 seats but at the moment I don’t have that. That’s why I will not make any false promises and will not talk about Article 370.”
Ghulam Nabi Azad is on a tour of Poonch and Rajouri. He recently said in Kashmir that talking about Article 370 is irrelevant. Their main demand is to give back statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and to hold assembly elections at the earliest.
His statement had drawn criticism from NC vice-president Omar Abdullah, who said the senior Congress leader has accepted defeat even before the Supreme Court took up hearing in the matter.
