New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 29,435, including 6868 cured/discharged/migrated and 934 deaths as India steps in the final days of the 40-day lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19.
1,543 new cases of COVID-19 and 62 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.
The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, has climbed to 8,590 with 369 deaths.
Follows Gujarat with 3548 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, second highest in the country.
A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

“We are not flattening the curve. At this doubling rate, we will have over 1.12 lakh cases by the middle of May. Doubling is happening in 10 to 12 days but we are in the stage of the active growth rate of cases,” the sources told to News18.
Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases reached 3,041,550 while the death toll crossed 211,159, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
The United States alone accounted for over 9.88 lakh COVIID-19 cases while the death toll in the country has climbed to 56,245.
