COVID-19 Cases In India Reach 1.38 Lakh, Nearly 7,000 New Cases In Last 24 Hours

India registered nearly 7,000 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, highest so far, amid lockdown alarming the governments across the country.

New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 1,38,845 including over 55,000 cured/discharged or migrated and more than 4,000 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In the past 24 hours, 154 casualties were recorded.

A staggering 6,977 cases new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours, highest so far.

Maharashtra, the worst affected state by the virus, recorded over 50,000 cases and 1,454 deaths. the state recorded over 3,000 cases in the last 24 hours.

Of these, Mumbai alone reported 30,542 cases along with 988 deaths.

Follows Tamil Nadu as it witnessed the sharpest hike in fresh cases this week. Total cases in the state surge to 16,277.

Gujarat with over 14,000 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, third highest in the country.

Delhi recorded 13,418 COVID-19 cases and over 130 fatalities.

Tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim registered its first COVID-19 case.

Infections are now doubling every 13.8 days if data of the past seven days are considered.

Across the country, at least 55,000 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 41.28%.

Currently, there are over 77,000 active COVID-19 patients in the country.

India is the 10th worst-affected country in terms of the total number of COVID-19 cases, overtaking China and Iran. However, its tally of active cases exceeds those of some top-ten countries including Spain, Italy, Germany, Turkey and Iran.

A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

213 countries or territories have been affected by the highly contagious virus.

New cases fell to zero in China on Saturday.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 5,600,000 while the death toll crossed 345,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States, the worst affected country in the world, recorded over 1.6 Million cases of COVID-19 and nearly 1,00,000 lakh deaths, as per Johns Hopkins University data.
