India registered over 5,600 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, highest so far, amid lockdown alarming the governments across the country.
New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 1,12,359 including over 42,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 3,435 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
In the past 24 hours, 132 casualties were recorded.
A staggering 5,611 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours, highest so far.
Maharashtra, the worst affected state by the virus, nears 40,000-mark and 1,390 deaths. the state witnessed over 2,000 for the fourth straight day.
Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, figures climbed above 21,000.
Follows Tamil Nadu as it witnessed the sharpest hike in fresh cases this week. Total cases in the state surge past 13,000.
Gujarat with 12,537 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, third highest in the country.
Delhi recorded 11,088 COVID-19 cases and over 120 fatalities.
Infections are now doubling every 13.8 days if data of the past seven days are considered.
Across the country, at least 42,298 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 39%.
Currently, there are 63,624 active COVID-19 patients in the country.
India is the 11th most-affected nation in terms of the total number of confirmed cases, overtaking China.
A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

213 countries or territories have been affected by the highly contagious virus.
Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 5,000,000 while the death toll crossed 326,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
The United States, the worst affected nation in the world, recorded over 1.5 Million cases of COVID-19, nearly one-third of the entire world’s caseload, as per Johns Hopkins University data.
