Cow Vigilantes Return: Man Beaten Up With Hammer In Gurugram On Suspicion of Carrying ‘Beef’

Lukman Khan (victim, 25) is a meat trader from Haryana’s Nuh. Reportedly, he was going to Sadar Bazar to sell the meat when he was attacked in Gurugram.

 

Gurugram| In a horrifying incident reminiscent of the series of Cow vigilantism episodes, a man was beaten up mercilessly by a mob on suspicion of carrying ‘Beef’. The incident took place in Gurugram adjacent to Delhi on Friday morning. The chilling video of the incident which has surfaced on the internet shows a mob surrounding the man who is sitting on the ground partly unconscious and being beaten with a hammer.

As per the reports, the man has had skull fracture and is in hospital. His condition is stable but he remains critical. The police have lodged a complaint and have arrested two persons in connection with the case.

Lukman Khan (victim, 25) is a meat trader from Haryana’s Nuh. Reportedly, he was going to Sadar Bazar to sell the meat. He had Buffalo Meat loaded in his pickup van. Lukman said that he had reached Sector 4-5 Chowk at 9 am. At the same time, some youths arrived on five two-wheelers and abducted him. They took him to Badshahpur where he was beaten up mercilessly. Eyewitnesses said that police arrived at the spot but when they tried to intervene, they were heckled too.

Luckman told the police, “They must have been around 8 to 10 people. They shouted at me and stopped the car. I started driving for my safety. I stopped my car at Sadar Bazar and they pulled me out. They beat me brutally with a hammer, accusing me of carrying beef.”

Police Stood Watching, Did Nothing As Accused Ran Away

An eyewitness of the incidence said that while Lukman was being beaten up by the mob, the police was standing there but did nothing. The video of the incident that has gone viral on social media shows Lukman being kicked and hit by blows. The mob also beat him up with a rod. In another bone-chilling clipping an unmasked man in blue t-shirt is seen beating Lukman with a hammer while he begs for his release.

Fractures in Lukman’s body

The Gurugram police team chased the truck and rescued Lukman. Reportedly, the accused also attacked the police and vandalized their car before escaping. Police admitted Lukman to the hospital. Lukman has fractures at many places in his body but his condition is said to be stable.

Case registered against unidentified cow vigilantes

In the video of the incident, the accused can be seen clearly, yet the police have registered a case against unknown people under sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 325, 341, 342 and 427 of IPC. The meat found from the van has been sent to the forensic lab for examination.
