Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a discussion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah through video conference over preparedness for Cyclone Nisarga.
Mumbai| A high alert has been issued in Mumbai and South Gujrat coastal region as the storm of the century Cyclone Nisarga inches closer. The Indian Meteorological Department said that the low pressure area developing in Arabian sea is likely to intensify and turn into severe cyclonic storm. The cyclone is expected to make a landfall in Mumbai on June 3rd in the evening.
Depression over East central Arabian Sea lay near latitude 14.4°N and longitude 71.2°E about 300 km west-southwest of Panjim, 550 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 770 km south-southwest of Surat, as per IMD update at 2.30 AM today.
The central govt alerted that the depression will intensify into a Deep Depression by afternoon & intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm over East central Arabian Sea during next 12 hrs. Cyclone Nisarga is very likely to cross north Maharashtra & south Gujarat coasts between Harihareshwar & Daman tomorrow afternoon.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a discussion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah through video conference over preparedness for Cyclone Nisarga. The chief minister’s office informed that he has apprised the Home Minister of the arrangements and preparedness by the state in light of the cyclone warning.
During the video conference, the CM said that alert has been issued to Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri & Sindhudurg. He also said that the state’s disaster management, relief & rehabilitation department is fully prepared to deal with the cyclone.
As many as 10 NDRF teams have arrived in the state whereas six teams are on stand by.
The state has asked the fishermen to come back and has asked the coast guard to ensure the same. The state govt said it is ensuring that there is no power disruptions during and after cyclone. Additional precautions are being taken to protect the chemical plants and atomic energy plants situated bear Palghar district.
