DD assistant director suspended for not telecasting PM Modi’s IIT-Madras speech live

Reportedly, the DD Assistant Director was playing Tamil language song and drama when PM Modi was addressing the students.

 

New Delhi| The state broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) has suspended an Assistant Director of its Tamil channel. Apparently, the reason behind her suspension is not telecasting Prime minister Narendra Modi‘s speech live on the television channel. R Vasumathi was assistant director of DD’s Tamil language news channel Podhigai TV. She has been suspended for the dereliction of duties.

On Monday, Prime Minister Modi visited Chennai after returning from the US trip. In Chennai, he attended the convocation ceremony of IIT-Madras student and prize distribution ceremony of India-Singapore hackathon. He also addressed the students. However, Podhigai TV did not live telecast the speech. The Prime Minister’s office had sought an explanation for this from the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar.
