DUSU Elections: ABVP wins three posts out of four

DUSU election’s final result has been announced. RSS backed ABVP has won three key posts in DUSU and Congress-backed NSUI bagged one post.

New Delhi| The RSS affiliated ABVP (Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad) dominated the DUSU election as it won three of the four seats, while the Congress affiliated NSUI (National Student Union of India) bagged one.

Celebrations broke outside the counting centre in Kingsway Camp with supporters dancing to Dhol beats while rose petals were being showered on the winners. The winners wearing garlands proceeded to the varsity’s Art’s faculty, from where they marched to victory.

ABVP’s Ashwit Dahiya defeated NSUI candidate Chetna Tyagi for the top post by a margin of over 19000 votes. Pradeep Tanwar and Shivangi Kharwal, both from ABVP secured the maximum number of votes for the post of president, vice president and joint secretary respectively.

The lone winner from NSUI was Ashish Lamba, who defeated ABVP’s Yogi Rathe by a margin of 2,053 votes for the post DUSU secretary.

There were around 1.44 lakh registered voters across 52 colleges and departments affiliated to DU this Year. The university used 144 electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the polls on Thursday.
