The schedule of assembly elections in 5 states including West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu is being announced by the Election Commission. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora is announcing the dates at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora began by thanking the Covid warriors said that elections were held in 18 Rajya Sabha seats in June. “After this, there was a challenge of Bihar election which had crores of voters. Many officers fell victim to Covid but joined duty as soon as they recovered. The Bihar election saw more than 57 per cent turnout, higher than the 2015 assembly election. There was more participation of women in it,” Arora said.

More than one lakh polling booths will function in West Bengal. CEC Sunil Arora said that all election officials will be vaccinated before the election. The polling time has been increased by an hour. There will be an online enrollment facility. The door to Door campaign will include a maximum of five people, roadshows will be allowed.

Ajay Naik, who was CEO in Bihar will be the election supervisor in West Bengal. The candidates against whom there are pending criminal cases will have to publish the information in newspapers thrice during the election campaign. Candidates can spend a maximum of Rs 22 lakh in Puducherry for campaigning, in other states this limit is Rs 30 lakh.
Assam: Elections will be held in three phases, notification for the first phase will be issued on 2 March, the last date for the nomination is 9 March, voting will be held on 27 March, counting of votes will be held on 2 May. The second phase of polling in Assam will be held on April 1, the third phase will be held on April 6 in 40 seats.
Kerala: Voting will be held in Kerala in one phase. The voting will take place on 6 April. The by-election for the Mallapuram Lok Sabha seat will also take place on the same day.
Tamil Nadu: All 234 seats in Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase. Voting will take place on 6 April.
Puducherry: There will be one phase voting in Puducherry. Voting will take place here on 6 April.
West Bengal: Elections in West Bengal will be held in 8 phases. Purulia Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore Part One, East Midnapore Part 1 will go to polls on March 27 in the first phase.
The second phase of elections in West Bengal will be held on 1st April in Bankura Part Two, West and East Mindnapur Part 2, South 24 Parganas Part 1.
The third phase of elections in Bengal will be held on 6 April.
Polling for the fourth phase will be held on April 9 in Howrah Part 2, Hooghly Part 2, South Parganas Part 3, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar.
Voting for the 5th phase will take place on 17 April. After this, the sixth round of voting will be held in West Bengal on 22 April.
The election for the Seventh phase will be held on April 26 and the Eighth phase will be held on April 29.
