Editors Guild Condemns The FIR Against Vinod Dua

An FIR was filed against Vinod Dua On Wednesday reportedly for his comments in one of the episodes of his show by BJP Spokesperson Naveen Kumar.

Mumbai| The Editor’s Guild of India has released a statement condemning the FIR registered against HW News Network’s Consultant Editor Vinod Dua for his comments on “The Vinod Dua Show”.

Expressing dismay over the recent trend of complaints against journalists, the guild said, “The Editors Guild of India is deeply concerned by the growing tendency among police in various states to take cognizance of frivolous charges against journalists and convert them into First Information Report (FIR).

The guild said that the latest instance of this precedence is the FIR against veteran journalist Vinod Dua, based on a complaint by Naveen Kumar, who has been identified as a spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The guild also stressed that the accusations are a brazen attack on Mr. Dua’s right to free speech and fair comment. The guild further added that the FIR based on this is an instrument of harassment setting of a process that is itself a punishment.

“The Guild unequivocally condemns this practice and urges the police to respect Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms rather than behave in a manner that raises questions on its independence,” the guild further said.

An FIR was filed against Vinod Dua On Wednesday reportedly for his comments in one of the episodes of his show by BJP Spokesperson Naveen Kumar. The complainant had accused Mr. Dua of spreading fake information with the intention to disturb communal peace.
