Supreme court dismisses plea alleging poll bribing in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi | The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea which alleged that people were being bribed on a massive scale for Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said it was not inclined to hear the matter since Lok Sabha elections in the state were already over.

The apex court had earlier sought Election Commission’s response on the plea in which the petitioner had sought creating awareness through TV, newspapers and radio that it was a punishable offence to give or take cash for votes.

The petition had said that so far Rs. 78.12 crore in cash has been seized in the state.

“I have no problem if you do not vote for me”, Varun Gandhi tells Muslims

Philibit (Uttar Pradesh) | BJP leader Varun Gandhi allegedly said at a rally that he does not mind if the Muslims do not vote for him in the elections.

Varun Gandhi, son of BJP leader Maneka Gandhi, is contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Philibit in Uttar Pradesh.

“I want to say just one thing to my Muslim brothers. I will be very happy if you vote for me. But even if you don’t, no problem at all. You can still come to me for your work (aap fir v mujhse kam le lena),” he said while addressing an election rally here.

“But if your sugar gets mixed with my tea, then my tea will become sweeter,” he added.

His comments are in direct contradiction to his mother’s comments, who had said that she will not help the ones who do not vote for her.

“You came to seek our help at the time of your need. But, if you say during election time that we will not vote for the BJP and instead vote for any other party which can defeat BJP, then it breaks our heart”.

She also said that the community should realise it since they will need to get their work done once BJP is in power.

Union Minister Maneka Gandhi is contesting from the Sultanpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh will go in the polls in all the seven phases, the next one being on April 23.

The results of the counting will be announced on May 23.
