“Financial System Designed In Wrong Way,” Nobel Peace Prize Winner Mohammad Yunus Tells Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi| Congress leader Rahul Gandhi talked to the founder of Grameen Bank and the Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus in a series of discussions on Coronavirus. Rahul questioned how the Coronavirus crisis has affected the poor, the availability of loans and poor women. Professor Yunus said that the financial system has been designed in a very wrong way.

Women have skills but have been forgotten

‘Women were separated. They have no voice, while they are the core strength of society. When the micro-credit came, the women realized their power. She can fight, she has the skill. They are forgotten because they are from the informal sector,” said Yunus.

Millions of people had to flee the cities

‘During the time of Coronavirus crisis, the weaknesses of society have been revealed. There are poor people, migrant labourers in cities. There are people we know who work for us, cooks and security personnel. But, suddenly we see millions of them on the highway trying to go home. This is the reason that nothing is left for them in the cities,” Yunus said.
