“Governor Has Time To Meet Kangana, Not My Farmers”: Sharad Pawar At Rally In Mumbai

NCP chief Sharad Pawar, while addressing the rally, said it was unfortunate that those in power did not care about the protesting farmers.

Sharad Pawar, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, today came down heavily on the centre as addressed a huge rally in Mumbai, which was organised to express solidarity with farmers protesting near Delhi’s borders. Mr Pawar said it was unfortunate that those in power did not care about the protesting farmers.

“Braving cold weather, farmers from Punjab, Haryana & Uttar Pradesh are agitating for the last 60 days. Has the PM enquired about them? Do these farmers belong to Pakistan?” Mr Pawar asked while addressing the rally.

The seasoned Maharashtra politician also hit out at Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for not meeting the farmers of the state.

“You are going to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor. Maharashtra has never seen such a Governor before. He has the time to meet Kangana (Ranaut) but not the farmers. It was the moral responsibility of the Governor to come here & meet you,” Mr Pawar said.

“[The] Centre refused oppositions demand to refer these laws to select committee. This was a way put to built consensus. But the Modi government insisted it is passed as it was. The process to teach govt a lesson has begun through farmers. There cannot be a compromise on MSP [minimum support price],” Mr Pawar added.

Thousands of farmers from 21 districts of Maharashtra marched towards Mumbai from Nashik on Sunday. The rally was carried out in support of the farmers protesting at the borders of national capital against the three new farm laws brought in by the centre.
