After HC Order On Covid Protocols, EC Calls All Party Meeting Tomorrow In Kolkata

For discussion over following Covid-related protocols for the last four phases of the poll, all parties have been asked to send one representative.

Aariz Aftab, the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Bengal, has called an all party meeting on April 16 after a Calcutta High Court order to the CEO and all district magistrates to ensure strict implementation of COVID-19 protocols during a campaign for the remaining four phases.

For discussion over following Covid-related protocol for the last four phases of the poll, all parties have been asked to send one representative.

The CEO said that state additional director general of police (law and order) Jag Mohan and state health secretary N S Nigam will also be present in the meeting.

On Tuesday, in an order considered as wake up call for political parties, the Calcutta High Court directed that all health-related guidelines must be maintained in the strictest possible manner with regard to campaigning by political parties for the West Bengal assembly polls.

A division bench presided by Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan, hearing two petitions in this regard, ordered all district magistrates to ensure the guidelines laid down by the EC and CEO are strictly implemented.

The court said that the administration should ensure that all the COVID-19 guidelines are strictly adhered to in the public interest.
