NEW DELHI| Delhi government is in a huddle to assess whether COVID-19 has entered the community transmission phase in Delhi or not, Health Minister Satyendra Jain has said the source of infection for more than 50% cases in the national capital remains untraceable.
Satyendra Jain said the Centre can put an end to speculations by clarifying as in the past the AIIMS director claimed the novel coronavirus in Delhi is on the community spread.
Satyendra Jain Delhi minister said, “The AIIMS director has spoken about community spread but the central government is not accepting it.”
Satyendar Jain also said, “We can say that [there is community spread] only when Centre admits it… Community spread is when there are cases in which source [of infection] cannot be ascertained… Almost half of our cases are like this.”
Delhi minister Satyendra Jain added that the source of about 50 per cent of coronavirus cases in Delhi is not known.
The Delhi Health Minister said the government was expecting that the beds in private hospitals would cater to patients up to 15 days but most of the beds reserved for coronavirus patients have been used in 4-5 days. Satyendra Jain said, “We have to further enhance the capacity now.”
Following the reports of Community transmission on Monday, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said if community transmission was taking place in Delhi, the AAP government would have to change its strategy accordingly to deal with the situation.
