Himachal Pradesh avalanche: Another soldier’s body recovered; two still missing

As many as six Indian Army soldiers of the 7 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles were buried under the snow after an avalanche hit the Shipki La near the Sino-India border on February 20.

 

Shimla| Almost a month after the avalanche, the body of one more Armyman who had gone missing has been found in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Officials said that the body was recovered on Saturday. The deceased Army man has been identified as Nitin Rana. Officials said that his mobile phone was recovered a few days ago.

His body will be taken to his native place at Rit village in Jaisinghpur tehsil of Kangra district, he informed.

As many as six Indian Army soldiers of the 7 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles were buried under the snow after an avalanche hit the Shipki La near the Sino-India border on February 20. Earlier, bodies of three jawans were found. However, two are still missing.

On March 2, the body of Rifleman Rajesh Rishi and on March 4, the body of Rifleman Govind Bahadur Chhetri was recovered. The body of Havaldar Rakesh Kumar was recovered on the day of the avalanche.

Search operations are still being carried out by as many as 400 army personnel and several residents of Khab village.
