Home Minister Amit Shah Dials Uddhav Thackeray To Express Concern Over Bandra Migrant Protest

Clarifying the issue, Chief Minister Thackeray said that migrants gathered at Bandra after rumours spread that trains will be started once the lockdown ends on April 14.

 

Mumbai| Home Minister Amit Shah today called up Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to express concern over the incident took place at Bandra. Close to 300 people mostly migrants gathered outside Bandra Railway station in the afternoon at around 4 PM and staged a protest.

This comes even as the Lockdown in the state to tackle Coronavirus Pandemic has been extended for 20 more days. Earlier, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had announced to increase the lockdown till April 30th. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced to increase the lockdown till May 3.

“Migrants gathered after rumours”

Clarifying the issue, Chief Minister Thackeray said that migrants gathered at Bandra after rumours spread that trains will be started once the lockdown ends on April 14. Since, the lockdown was extended and the migrants were stuck they started protesting.

Home Minister Amit Shah said that such incidents defeat the purpose of the Lockdown and weaken our fight against Coronavirus.

State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed that 197 cases have been filed and 37 arrests have been made in this regard.

Earlier, in Surat hundreds of migrant workers took to streets demanding a safe passage to go back home. They had burnt vehicles and vandalised the property.
