MUMBAI| On Sunday India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the heatwave in countries capital Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Rajasthan for the next two days. IMD advises taking extreme care for vulnerable people, i.e infants, elderly and people with chronic diseases. The warning runs for two days i.e Monday and Tuesday.

IMD has stated messages in four colours i.e red, green, yellow, and amber. Green indicates normal, red states extreme weather situations. A red warning indicates there is a high chance of developing heat realted illness and heat strokes in people of all ages.
Oranges colour warning for a heatwave for Uttar Pradesh, Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre told PTI. They also warned the temperature could hit 47-degree celsius in some parts over the next two-three days. This is also for the first time this summer that a red warning has been issued for a heatwave.
On Sunday, Nagpur Sonegaon records the highest temperature of 46 degrees celsius. Apart from this, Bihar, J&K, Ladakh, East Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh saw more than 3 degrees Celcius rise in temperature.
In North East places like Assam and Meghalaya are likely to experience heavy rainfall within the next five days. Parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will also see heavy showers, the weather agency said.
On Sunday Delhi witnessed the hottest day of the season on Saturday, with 46-degree celsius mark.
