The Central Government has said that Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech, would produce more than 43 million doses of Covishield and Covaxin every month.
The number of doses administered as a part of coronavirus vaccination in India has crossed 50 crores. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya made the announcement on social media on Friday. He called it India’s historic achievement in the fight against Coronavirus.

The Health Minister said that it took 85 days for the country to touch the figure of 10 crore doses in vaccination. After this, it took 45 days to cross the figure of 20 crores, 29 days to reach 30 crores, 24 days to reach 40 crores and 20 more days to cross the figure of 50 crores. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that after this milestone, we will continue the same pace of vaccination and complete the vaccination of all citizens as soon as possible.
More than 43.29 lakh vaccines were administered on Friday
According to the government, 50.03 crore doses have been administered till 7 pm on Friday. More than 43.29 lakh vaccines were administered on Friday alone. So far, 17.23 crore people aged 18-44 have been given the first and 1.12 crore second doses, the health ministry said. In 5 states Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, more than one crore doses have been given to people of this age.
Vaccination drive in India started in from January 16 this year. From June 21, the central government took full control of vaccination. Since then, the central government has been buying 75% of vaccines from vaccine companies and giving them to the states and union territories for free. 25% supply is reserved for private hospitals.
The top 5 states in terms of vaccination are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh is the only state where more than 5 crore vaccines have been administered the vaccine doses. So far 3.18 crore people have been infected due to the virus in the country. However, there are only 4.07 lakh active cases. More than 3.10 crore people have recovered. The infection has caused 4.26 lakh deaths.
Covishield-Covaxin production to be increased by 43 million doses every month
The pace of vaccination in the country is expected to accelerate further from this month. The Central Government has said that the two largest vaccine manufacturers in the country, Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech, would produce more than 43 million doses of Covishield and Covaxin every month.
SII said that it is now going to increase the production of Covishield from 110 million to 120 million doses every month. Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech will also increase the production of Covaxin from 2.5 crore to 5.8 crore.
