India for the First Time Reports Highest Number of 601 COVID-19 Positive Cases in Last 24 Hours

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry confirms in the last 12 hours there has been a spike of 355 cases of Coronavirus and 12 deaths in the country

 

NEW DELHI| The country has recorded 601 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. For the first time, the country has recorded these highest number of cases along with 68 deaths.

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry confirms in the last 12 hours there has been a spike of 355 cases of Coronavirus and 12 deaths in the country.

The total number in India has surged to 2902 which includes 2650 active cases, 183 cured or discharged and 68 deaths.

The unprecedented spike in the number of cases across India over the last week has been linked to the controversial religious gathering held by Islamic group Tablighi Jamaat in south Delhi in March.

Tamil Nadu, which has reported the second-highest number of COVID-19 patients in India after Maharashtra, has registered over 360 cases of the highly contagious disease linked to the Delhi mosque event held last month, according to the state government.

The United States recorded nearly 1,500 deaths from COVID-19 between Thursday and Friday, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker, the worst 24-hour death toll globally.

The total number of people who have died since the start of the pandemic in the United States is now 7,406.
