India registered nearly 5,034 COVID-19 related cases in 24 hours, highest so far, amid lockdown alarming the governments across the country.
New Delhi| The total cases in India surged to 96,169 including over 36,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 3,021 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
In the past 24 hours, 157 casualties were recorded.
A staggering 5,034 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours, highest so far.
Maharashtra, the worst affected state by the virus, reported 33,053 with over 1,198 deaths. It also recorded it’s the highest spike with 2000 cases in the last 24 hours.
Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, figures climbed above 16,000.
Follows Gujarat with 11,379 cases of highly infectious coronavirus, third highest in the country.
Tamil Nadu witnessed the sharpest hike in fresh cases this week. Total cases in the state are 11,224.
Delhi recorded 10,554 COVID-19 cases and over 120 fatalities.
Infections are now doubling every 13.8 days if data of the past seven days are considered.
Across the country, at least 36,824 patients have cured so far the recovery rate stood at 33%.
Currently, there are 56,316 active COVID-19 patients in the country.
India is the 11th most-affected nation in terms of the total number of confirmed cases, overtaking China.
A total of 280 government laboratories in the country is conducting tests for the novel coronavirus, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said. ICMR also issued a list of 90 private labs which will conduct the testing.

213 countries or territories have been affected by the highly contagious virus.
Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 4,700,000 while the death toll crossed 315,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has entered into a grim situation as it recorded 1.3 Million cases of COVID-19, about one-third of the entire world’s caseload, as per Johns Hopkins University data.
