India Reported More Coronavirus Cases Than US, Brazil For Last 12 Days

Since August 4, India has been on top of the list of the countries that are reporting the highest number of a daily surge in coronavirus cases.

Recording over 63,000 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours, India’s tally reached to 25.89 lakh cases, the health ministry data showed this morning. India has reported over 49,000 deaths due to coronavirus so far. India, the third worst-hit country by the pandemic after the US and Brazil, has been reporting a higher daily surge in caseload for the past 12 days, according to the World Health Organization data.

Since August 4, India has been on top of the list of the countries that are reporting the highest number of a daily surge in coronavirus cases. Where the United States, the epicentre of the pandemic, has logged over 53 lakh cases so far, Brazil has recorded about 33 lakh cases, about 7 lakh more than India.

With recovery rate at 71.91 per cent this morning, about 18.62 lakh people have recovered so far.

The positivity rate, as compared to yesterday’s 7.48 per cent, stood at 8.50 per cent this morning. It gives an indication of the prevalence of the disease.

According to the government data, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh are the five states that recorded the highest number of cases in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra is the worst-hit in the country by the pandemic with 5.84 lakh cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (3.32 lakh), Anhdra Pradesh (2.81 lakh), Karnataka (2.19 lakh).
