Mumbai: The bail plea of Indrani Mukerjee, arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case, has been rejected. The Bombay High Court has dismissed the petition. Lawyer Sana Khan told that she will now approach the Supreme Court. Indrani, who was arrested in the year 2015, is yet to get bail.
In August last year also, the special CBI court in Mumbai had rejected Indrani’s bail plea. The court had said that after being released on bail, the possibility of the accused influencing the prosecution witnesses cannot be ruled out.
The judge had said at that time, “There is no doubt that the accused is an influential and wealthy person. Hence, the possibility of influencing the prosecution witnesses cannot be ruled out.” After failing to secure bail several times on medical grounds, Mukherjee filed another petition in December last year on the “merits” of the case. On the basis of which bail was sought.
Significantly, the CBI has decided to close its investigation in the Sheena Bora murder case. Sheena’s mother and former media executive Indrani Mukherjee is facing trial in this case.
Sources said that the investigating agency has told the special court in Mumbai that its investigation regarding the 2012 murder has been completed. CBI has filed three chargesheets and two supplementary chargesheets in this case in which Indrani Mukerjee, her driver Shyamvar Rai, ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and Peter Mukerjee have been named as accused. Indrani was arrested in 2015 for the murder of 25-year-old Sheena Bora. Sheena was Indrani’s daughter from her first marriage.
The body was burnt in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district.
She had been denied bail on multiple occasions by a special CBI court, which is conducting the trial in the murder case.
Former media baron Peter Mukerjee was also arrested for allegedly being part of the conspiracy. He was granted bail by the high court in February 2020.
