Interpol issues Red Corner notice against Nirav Modi

New Delhi | Interpol on Monday issued a Red Corner Notice against absconding businessmen Nirav Modi in connection with the multi-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam.

A similar notice has also been issued to Nirav’s brother Nishal Modi and his company’s executive Subhash Parab. The notice urges the member countries of the Interpol to detain or arrest Modi and his associates. The decision by Interpol has come after Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested the international agency to issue the notice against Nirav, who is wanted in India in the money laundering case.

Earlier on June 28, a Ministry of External Affairs official said India has requested a group of countries to deny entry to Nirav. Assistance is also been sought from some European countries including France, United Kingdom, and Belgium to trace and restrict Nirav’s movements. The Enforcement Directorate has already issued a non-bailable warrant against Nirav Modi who is reported to be in the United Kingdom.

Businessmen Nirav Modi along with his Uncle Mehul Choksi is been accused of cheating the Punjab National Bank to the tune of USD 2 billion, with the purported involvement of a few employees of the bank.
