Interpol issues Red Corner Notice against Mehul Choksi

New Delhi | The Interpol on Thursday issued a Red corner notice against fugitive absconder and co-accused in the 3,000 crores Punjab National Bank financial scam Mehul Choksi on request of the Central Beaureu of Investigation.

The Notice comes 6 months after the probing agency CBI asked Interpol to issue a red corner notice against the Choksi. The international organisation has already issued an RCN against his nephew Nirav Modi.

Earlier Mehul Choksi had moved the special CBI court for cancellation of a non-bailable warrant against him claiming he has reasons to believe that his return to India might endanger his life. He also cited “the recent trend of mob lynching” due to which he couldn’t travel to India.

The CBI in its reply to Interpol assured that Choksi was an “economic offender”, and would be provided with the necessary protection.
