IRCTC Scam: Patiala House Court grants bail to Lalu Yadav’s wife and son

New Delhi | Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Friday granted bail to all the accused including RJD chief Lalu Yadav’s wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav in the IRCTC hotel scam case. The Court has asked all the accused to furnish a personal bond & surety amount of Rs 1 lakh each.

RJD chief Lalu Yadav was not granted bail by the court due to his absence from the court. Yadav is currently jailed in Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Jail after he surrendered in the special CBI court in Ranchi related to the Fodder scam case. The Court has also issued a production warrant against Lalu Prasad Yadav for 6th October

The Court had earlier summoned all the accused to appear before the court on August 31 on the basis of the charge sheet filed by the CBI on April 16. The CBI has filed charge sheet against a Delhi-based private company, two directors of a private hotel company, a private person, the then Managing Director of IRCTC, a Member of Parliament and other officials from various departments under the IRCTC along with Yadav family.

The charge sheet states that there are enough evidence against the accused in a case pertains to alleged irregularities in allotting a contract to a private company for the maintenance of IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri during the tenure of Lalu Yadav as the Union Railway Minister during the UPA 1 era.

As per the investigation report by CBI, two BNR hotels of Indian railways were first transferred to the IRCTC and later for its operations, maintenance and upkeep, it was given on lease to Patna based Sujata hotel Pvt Ltd.
