Kanhaiya Kumar, Jignesh Mevani Likely To Join Congress On September 28: ANI

New Delhi : Communist Party of India (CPI) Leader Kanhaiya Kumar and Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch (RDAM) MLA Jignesh Mevani are likely to join Congress from 28th September. News agency ANI today tweeted and said according to sources both the leaders are likely to join grand old party.

Earlier it was reported that the duo will be joining the congress on 2nd October on Gandhi Jayanti but the joining is preponded now to 28th September on birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh.

Mevani a Dalit Leader representing Gujarat’s Vadgam constituency will be seen playing important role in Congress. Congress has taken a very calculated decision by bringing Mevani on board. Jignesh being a Dalit Leader joining Congress will help congress to win the polls next year, including Punjab, where Dalits are nearly a third of the population.

Kumar who was President of the Jawaharlal Nehru University’s students’ union and now leader of CPI is expected to bring a few other Left leaders with him when he jumps to the Congress. He will be joining party’s Bihar unit with others. According to sources, Kumar is not happy with CPI.

Kumar has already met Rahul Gandhi – twice in two weeks and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to discuss his future role in the party. Mr Kumar contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from his hometown of Begusarai in Bihar but lost to the BJP’s Giriraj Singh.

Congress sources also said a Jammu-based lawyer who fought for justice in a horrific rape case involving a minor – is also in talks and, if things go smoothly, might join with Mr Mevani and Mr Kumar.

Earlier this month Jignesh Mevani also ripped into the BJP after Vijay Rupani was asked to step down as Gujarat Chief Minister. Mr Mevani tweeted: “People of Gujarat would have appreciated had Mr Rupani resigned for his monumental mismanagement of Covid crisis.”

In last one year Congress has lost many young faces like Jitin Prasada Sushmita Dev and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

News of Kumar and Mevani joining Congresses shows Congress’s step to recruit young and dynamic faces ahead state elections of 2022 and 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
