Bommai has reportedly got approval from BJP high command in Delhi for cabinet formation
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is set to appoint 26 new ministers for his state cabinet on Wednesday. Bommai has reportedly got approval from BJP high command in Delhi for cabinet formation, sources said. The swearing-in ceremony of the new council of ministers is set to take place at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru at 5pm on Wednesday.
Bommai was in Delhi the past couple of days to hold consultations with the BJP central leadership on expansion of his cabinet.
Bommai was called on by many ministerial aspirants who raised the pitch for a cabinet berth. Former agriculture minister B C Patil, who met Bommai, maintained that his meeting was related to an irrigation project in his constituency. Asked whether he spoke to the CM about a ministerial berth, he said, “The CM is aware of it. He has already spoken about it (cabinet expansion) to the media that he will do it at the earliest. So I did not discuss with him on this issue.”

According to party sources, besides Patil, Murugesh Nirani, K G Bopaiah, Shivanagouda Naik, Mahesh Kumathalli, Dr C N Ashwath Narayan and V Somanna were among those who called on the Chief Minister.
Although Bommai is aligned to the Lingayat community, he has to balance several interest groups within the party.
Basavaraj Bommai took oath as the Karnataka Chief Minister on July 28 after the resignation of his predecessor B S Yediyurappa two days earlier.
On the topic of cabinet expansion, Yediyurappa had said that he will not interfere, and Bommai was free to induct anyone he wants into his Ministry.
