Thiruvananthapuram | Bishop Franco Mulakkal accused of raping a Kerala Nun was interrogated on Friday for the third straight day in a hi-tech interrogation cell in the Crime Branch (CB) office at Tripunithura in Kochi.
Mulakkal who is being interrogated for more than 15 hours in the last two days was brought to the Crime branch office in a police convoy of three police vehicles. Addressing media, Kottayam Superintendent of Police Hari Sanker said that the interrogation would be wrapped up on Friday.
After the interrogation on Thursday, the Crime branch had sent 3 police team to an undisclosed place. The investigating officer said, “The team was sent for verifying about 10 per cent of the details revealed by the bishop during the interrogation.”
Ahead of his arrest, the Jalandhar Bishop has applied for an anticipatory bail in the Kerala High Court. The Crime Branch will decide on the arrest after the court’s decision. Meanwhile, the Vatican has relieved the bishop of his responsibilities as the head of the Jalandhar diocese on Thursday.
A Kerala Nun has accused Bishop France Mulakkal of raping multiple times at a convent at Kuravilangad in Kottayam district between 2014 and 2016.
