The Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted six weeks provisional bail to former Bihar chief minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on medical grounds, said his counsel Prabhat Kumar. The provisional bail was granted to Prasad by Justice Apresh Kumar Singh.
Though, Mr Singhvi refused to speak to the media in Ranchi, Mr Kumar said, âPrasad has been granted six weeks provisional bail on medical groundâŚit will be effective from the date of his release from the jail. The court has prohibited Prasad from holding any political rally during the bail period.â
âAfter the expiry of his parole, Prasad has to come back to the Ranchi jail, and once the order reaches the prison, he will be released on provisional bail for six weeks for a medical checkup,â said Prasadâs counsel.
Currently, the former chief minister is on a three-day parole to attend his son Tej Pratapâs wedding on May 12. He left the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi for Patna on Thursday.
Prasad is serving time in jail after conviction in three different fodder scam cases. He has been admitted at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi since March 18. He was recently referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for further treatment. He returned to RIMS on May 1 after a team of AIIMS doctors declared him fit to be brought back to RIMS.
âIt’s just a beginning of getting relief for our leaderâŚwe hope that Laluji will get relief from the court in all cases in which he was sent to jail. Weâve full faith in the judiciary,â RJD leader and party spokesperson Manoj Jha told journalists in Patna.
