New Delhi : Bhartiya Janta Party Leader Dilip Ghosh’s comment on TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee and Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi has created a controversy. Hitting on Banarjee and Gandhi after TMC’s call for not attending the meeting of the opposition parties called by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Congress Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghosh said, “Mamata Banerjee is trying to become the leader. The days of Sonia Gandhi are over”.
“Let them decide who will stay with whom. BJP has no interest in this. This is a drama by the opposition,” IANS further quoted the West Bengal BJP leader as saying.
Ghosh’s comments come at a time when TMC leaders have advocated for Mamata Banerjee being projected as the face of the opposition bloc to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP in Lok Sabha elections 2024.
Meanwhile, TMC MP Sougata Roy hit back at the BJP leader, saying his party had a meeting in Kolkata and the leaders were supposed to attend it. While calling the observation of Ghosh insignificant, Roy said, “It is insignificant to make any comment on the observation of Dilip Ghosh. Let them think over their defeat in the assembly elections without spending time on unnecessary things.”
Meanwhile, Congress leader in Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s statements also raised eyebrows. In an apparent reference to TMC, Chowdhury said, “There are some opposition parties who pose to be opposition but in reality, they are with the ruling party. Whenever there is a clash with the government they back out. Congress never behaves in this way.”
Derek O Briden hearing the leader strongly remarked that there will be unity in the Parliament. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Yes there will be Opposition unity in #Parliament. Common ISSUES will unite the Opposition. RJD, DMK, CPI-M are all electoral allies of Congress. NCP, Shiv Sena, JMM run a government with them. Congress is not our electoral ally nor are we running a government with them. That’s the distinction”.
