Mehul Choksi shares video from Antigua hideout, terms ED allegations ‘false and baseless’

New Delhi | Absconding Diamond Jeweller Mehul Choksi on Tuesday shared a video stating the allegation by the Enforcement Directorate against him completely ‘false and baseless.’

Defending himself Fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi said “All the allegations labeled by the ED are false and baseless. They have attacked my properties illegally without there being any basis of the same.”

Choksi who is now an Antiguan Citizen is accused in the over Rs. 13,000 crore bank fraud Punjab National Bank scam along with his nephew Nirav Modi. Speaking about his suspension of passport Choksi said,” The passport authorities revoked my passport altogether in view of which I was immobilize. On February 16, I received an email from the passport office which said that my passport has been suspended due to reasons of security threat to India. On February 20, I sent an email to the regional passport office, Mumbai, requesting them to revoke the suspension of my passport. However, I did not receive any reply from the regional passport office.”

Earlier Chowksi had stated that he was a “victim of political persecution” and a “soft target” for the Indian government because it is finding it “impossible” to get other people wanted for economic crimes.In his first media interview to news agency ANI, he said that his he was confident that the government of his new country would “protect its citizen” in accordance with the law of the land.
