The Modasa Police Inspector NK Rabari reportedly informed the family of victim that she had married a guy from the community and would come back home.
Modasa| Gruesome act of rape and murder of 19-year-old Dalit woman came to light after the body of
the woman was found hanging from a banyan tree. The said incident happened in Saira village of
Gujarat’s Modasa on January 5 and four men are accused of the crime by the family.
Hundreds of community members and acquaintances of the family have been protesting at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital asking for stringent actions against the culprits and resignation of the police officer on duty.
The family also accused police of carelessness in handling the situation when the family had gone to
register an FIR on January 1. They also said that the Police declined to register an FIR. The girl went
missing after that.

The girl’s aunt said that when the father of the victim had gone to the police station for registering an FIR,
the police didn’t register an FIR. She added that an FIR was filed 2 days after the body was found.
The girl had gone to her sister’s place when a guy named Bimal Bharwad abducted the said girl in his
car, the CCTV footage of cooperative mill verifies the above incident. The car seen in CCTV footage is
found to be registered in the name of Bimal’s father Bharat Bharwad.
Bimal told the family of the victim that the car was taken by his three friends named Darshan Bharwad,
Satish Bharwad and Jigar.

her whereabouts, claiming that she had married a guy from the community and would come back
home.
On January 5, a priest in the village found the body of a victim hanging from a banyan tree. Grandfather of
the victim identified the body and registered an FIR against the four men.
The body of the victim was taken to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on Tuesday. The family has refused to
accept the body until the culprits are arrested and Rabari is suspended from his duty for negligence.
