New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday returned to Delhi from his five-day official visit to Rome and Glasgow, where he attended the G-20 Summit and the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference, respectively.
Before leaving for Delhi Modi tweeted that India not only exceeded the Paris commitments but has now also set an ambitious agenda for the next 50 years.

Indians reciting there, dressed in colorful Indian outfits had gathered in big numbers to bid a farewell to Narendra Modi. Before his departure for India, PM Modi also played drums along with members of the Indian community.
PM Modi’s 5-point agenda at COP26 climate summit
On Monday, PM Modi presented his five-point agenda, including the target to attain net-zero emissions by 2070, while delivering the ‘National Statement’ at the COP-26 conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
Terming the commitments as “panchamrit“, India’s gift to the world, the PM reiterated that India is working very hard on tackling climate change-related issues.
He said half of the country’s energy requirements would be met using renewable sources by 2030.
“India is the only country that is delivering in ‘letter and spirit’ on the Paris Declaration commitments on tackling climate change,” PM Modi said.
The five commitments:
1. India will achieve net-zero emissions by 2070
2. India will bring its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030
3. India will bring its economy’s carbon intensity down to 45 per cent by 2030
4. India will fulfill 50 per cent of its energy requirement through renewable energy by 2030
5. India will reduce 1 billion tonnes of carbon emissions from the total projected emissions by 2030
Later on Tuesday, PM Modi and British Prime Minister Johnson launched the Infrastructure for the Resilient Island States (IRIS) initiative in Glasgow. The launch was part of the India-UK Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).

PM Modi also held various bilateral meetings with several heads of the state on the sidelines of the G20. He met German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Pope Francis, President of the European Council, Charles Michel, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
At the summit, the prime minister highlighted India’s contribution to the global fight against the Covid pandemic and spoke about the nation’s ‘One Earth, One Health’ vision.
PM Modi also invited the world’s biggest countries to make India their partner in economic recovery and supply chain diversification.
