Monsoon Session Begins Today: No Question Hour, Limited Zero Hour Irks Opposition

On the first day of the session there will be election for the post of Deputy Chairman in Rajya Sabha.

 

New Delhi| The fourth session of the 17th Lok Sabha begins today, amidst the Coronavirus pandemic. This time it will be historic, because for the first time the chamber and gallery of both the houses will be used in a House meeting. There will be no Question Hour in both the Houses and Zero Hour is also limited. The session will run till October 1.

This time during the session, the proceedings will continue for 18 days. There will be no holiday. The session will be held on Saturday and Sunday as well. Usually both houses work together, but this time both will be convened in two shifts. The Lok Sabha will start from 9 am today and will run till 1 pm. The Rajya Sabha proceedings will run from 3 pm to 7 pm. After this, the Lok Sabha will run from 3 pm to 7 pm from 15 September to 1 October. At the same time, Rajya Sabha will run from 9 am to 1 pm.

Government will introduce 47 bills

47 bills will be introduced in the monsoon session. There will be 11 Bills which will replace the Ordinance. On the first day of the session there will be election for the post of Deputy Chairman in Rajya Sabha. There is a close fight between RJD leader Manoj Jha from the opposition and JDU leader Harivansh from NDA.

Apart from this, the Opposition may also raise questions on the absence of Question Hour in both the Houses and limiting the Zero Hour. A Covid test of 4000 people has been conducted for this session. These include MPs, their staff and the staff working in Parliament.

Congress will oppose 4 Bills, Sonia will not be able to attend the session yet

The Congress has said that it will vigorously raise the issue of Chinese intrusion at the border. Along with all the three bills related to agriculture, they will oppose the ordinance that changes the banking sector. Congress President Sonia Gandhi will not be attending the session for few days, as she has gone for a health check-up abroad.

What arrangements are made to prevent the spread of infection?

ACs will be changed 6 times daily to prevent the spread of infection. The MPs will get a DRDO kit to defend against Corona. Each kit will have 40 disposable masks, N95 masks, 20 bottles of sanitizer, 40 gloves and touch-free hooks to lock the door.
