Within six days of taking charge, Hemant Nagrale initiated an immediate transfer of 65 officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch. Now, officers from EOW are too facing the same fate.
Mumbai| Days after taking charge as Commissioner of Police, Hemant Nagrale has embarked on a mission to clean up the city police department which is facing criticism over the Sachin Vaze-Parambir Singh episode. Recently, Nagrale shunted 65 officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch unit who worked in the department for more than 5 years. Now, a similar fate awaits for officers in Economic Offence Wing department.
As per the prevailing norms, police officers are supposed to work in a department for three years before they are transferred to another post. However, some officers are serving in the department for more than 6 years. Owing to the possibility that some of them might have developed proximity to unwarranted elements, Nagrale has begun cleaning up the department.
As per the official order issued by Joint CP Vishwas Nangre-Patil, the copy of which is with HW News, as many as 13 officers from EOW have been transferred. These officers include Dilip Deshmukh, Jitendra Misal, Vinod Bhalerao, Baliram Dhas, Kundalik Gadhave, Kiran Jadhav, Chandrashekhar Gayakwad, Vikrant Shirsath, Sandeep Badgujar, Dipak Kadam, Pravin Fanase, Mahesh Tambe and Dhananjay Devdikar. They have been asked to immediately report to their new posting.
Hemant Nagrale Took Office During Turbulent Times
The Mumbai Police department faced a major humiliation over controversial cop Sachin Vaze-found to be involved in the Antilia bomb scare case and Mansukh Hiren death. Moreover, the sensational revelations by former CP Parambir Singh accusing Vaze and associates of collecting Haftas on the orders of Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh came as a loss of face for the department.

Amid the turbulent times, Hemant Nagrale was handed over the charge as Mumbai Commissioner of Police in mid-March. Since then, he has taken up the arduous task to bring back the lost glory of the city police department. Within six days, he initiated an immediate transfer of 65 officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch. Now, officers from EOW are too facing the same fate.
However, as per sources, this clean-up drive won’t stop at these two departments. More departments of the Mumbai Police could soon face similar action.
Speaking to HW News, CP Nagrale said, “It is operation clean-up part 2.”
